Before coming to Cebu, I did a massive online research of the accommodations in Cebu. At first, I was planning to stay at a beach resort in Mactan but when I finally saw the rates on their websites, I was really shocked. Most of them are very expensive that I think only rich people and foreigners can afford sleeping in those beach resorts. I realized then that it’s best for me to choose an accommodation in Cebu City. Upon researching, I found a lot of accommodations in Cebu ranging from hostels, pension houses and pricey hotels. This time I was looking for a cheap but decent accommodation because I know it would save me a lot of money. After browsing some reviews from pinoyexchange and trip advisor, I came up with 3 accommodations in mind: 1) Sampaguita Suites JRG 2) Gran Tierra Suites 3) Pacific Pensionne. Sampaguita Suites JRG’s location and free airport transfer had attracted me. And I’ve read a lot of good reviews about Gran Tierra Suites. In addition, Pacific Pensionne is one of the recommended accommodations in pinoyexchange.
One week prior to our arrival, I called Sampaguita Suites to make a reservation and I was surprised to know that they are fully booked. I called Gran Tierra Suites next and again I was shocked because they are also fully booked. I didn’t expect that these suites get fully booked early knowing that I already called them one week prior to our arrival. I thought maybe because it’s already the start of summer that’s why these suites get fully booked right away. So I tried my last resort, I called Pacific Pensionne. I was expecting that they are also fully booked since they are quite popular so I was enlightened when the receptionist told me that they have a room for me.
I booked for a double room (Matrimonial bed) for Php 800 (18.60 USD) on our first night. But my sister, nephew and sister-in-law would be arriving the next day so I told the receptionist to transfer us to a family room on our second night. They charged us Php 1,400 (32.56 USD) for a family room that is good for 4 adults and 1 child. I found the price very reasonable and a lot cheaper than staying overnight in one of the beach resorts in Mactan Island. Instead we just decided to avail a day tour in one of the beach resorts in Mactan that I’m going to talk about on my next post.
Honestly speaking, I was not expecting much about our room because I know that it’s really cheap. Anyway, I’m that not choosy when it comes to accommodation. I can stay at a very basic room as long as the room and the bathroom are clean. I’m glad I was not disappointed with Pacific Pensionne. When I finally saw our room, I found it really fine. It looks simple but its clean. In fact, I loved the atmosphere of the room because it looks very homey. Our room has an air condition, tv, table and a private bathroom. I saw many foreigners staying here. I realized then that some foreigners are also kuripot (thrifty). They have a restaurant/cafeteria downstairs so you won’t have any problem if you feel lazy to go out and buy your meals. Pacific Pensionne also accepts credit cards (Visa/Mastercard).
The location is also very convenient because it’s near to Fuente Osmeña, known as the heart of Cebu City. Pacific Pensionne is only a walking distance from Robinson’s Mall, Shamrock and Crown Regency Hotel, where you can try the sky walk and edge coaster. There are also a lot of eateries and fastfoods near the pension house such as Jollibee, Mcdonalds, Starbucks and Da Vinci Pizza. If you’re looking for a basic and cheap accommodation in Cebu City, then you might want to try out Pacific Pensionne.
